About Us

Dakota Pro Musica is a 501(c)3 nonprofit music and performing arts organization that provides professional-caliber performances and educational outreach programming to Bismarck and communities across North Dakota. The primary ensemble of the Dakota Pro Musica is a professional choral ensemble made up of musicians from across central North Dakota. We are this only fully professional choral ensemble in the state of North Dakota, and strive to serve the entire state with our programming.

The Dakota Pro Musica was founded by Dr. Jason Thoms, Director of Choral Activities at Bismarck State College, in October 2020. Dr. Thoms moved to Bismarck from the New York City area in August of 2020, where he was a conductor and a professional bass-baritone soloist and chorister with many ensembles. Dr. Thoms created Dakota Pro Music using the professional choral models of some of America's top choral ensembles. This model is project-based which means that instead of weekly rehearsals, musicians gather for most of their rehearsals and performances for just one week at a time. Dr. Thoms is in high demand as a professional choral singer and soloist.
