Wefald to Present on Navy Ships at North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum

The public is invited to “U.S. Navy Ships Named for People and Places Connected to North Dakota” presented by Bob Wefald at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. This illustrated lecture will include images of specific ships and familiarize the audience with the size and function of various classes of warships. Included will be a short video clip of the sinking of the SS John Burke by a kamikaze strike. Wefald is a retired North Dakota state district court judge who also served as North Dakota attorney general. A retired captain in the Navy Reserve, he served one tour off the coast of Vietnam in 1966 as a gunnery officer on a guided missile destroyer. Wefald is a 1964 graduate of the University of North Dakota and a 1970 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. This program is part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota’s Sensational Sundays program.
