Author Sarah Vogel, a former North Dakota commissioner of agriculture, will join Humanities North Dakota Executive Director Brenna Gerhardt for a conversation about Vogel's new book, "The Farmer's Lawyer: The North Dakota Nine and the Fight to Save the Family Farm." The book documents the experiences of Vogel as a young lawyer, undertaking a historic legal battle to stop the federal government from foreclosing on thousands of family farmers during the 1980s farm crisis. Vogel wrote the memoir working from her notes, drafts, and other documents now preserved in the North Dakota State Archives. Vogel will sign books following the presentation. Participants can bring their own books or purchase them at the event. This conversation and book signing event is part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota's Sensational Sundays series. Sensational Sundays are free cultural programs that include a variety of lectures, concerts, movies, and tours.
