Sensational Sundays: McIntosh County's German-Russians in World War I

"McIntosh County's German-Russians in World War I" will be presented by Gordon Iseminger, a Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor of History at the University of North Dakota. This presentation is part of a two-year series, “Perspectives on the Legacy of World War I,” commemorating the centennial of World War I. The series is a partnership of the State Historical Society of North Dakota and the University of Mary and features quarterly presentations. Iseminger will discuss the German-Russians population of McIntosh County, and their experiences during and after World War I. The presentation will include experiences of young men who served, as well as the espionage trial of John Wishek, known as the "Father of McIntosh County” among the German-Russians. His trial was the most sensational trial held in the early years of North Dakota statehood. "Perspectives on the Legacy of World War I" is a series of quarterly Sensational Sunday programs focused on events, impacts, and activities related to World War I and how they influence North Dakotans’ ways of life, world views, and philosophies. The series is presented in affiliation with North Dakota World War I Centennial Committee.
