Next to Normal Auditions

Next to Normal is a wonderful, award winning new musical about a wife and mother struggling with depression as she cares for her family. We are searching for 6 actors skilled in both singing and acting with a willingness to practice deep emotional character work. We will be holding open auditions on Sunday, January 17, 2016 by advance appointment ? call or email for a time (701-258-4998, artdir@dakotastageltd.com) and to receive audition sides from the show. Auditioners will be asked to read the sides presented as well as perform 16 bars from any song of their choosing along with some numbers from the show. Invited call backs will be on Tuesday, January 19. We will be casting 2 adult males, 1 adult female, 1 young adult female and 2 young adult males. A full rehearsal calendar will be available for viewing during the auditions. The following roles will be cast: Diana - Forties. Delusional, bipolar, and depressed. The sexiness of her yesterdays has only recently begun to soften. She is determined to make her family perfect but is tortured by a death in the family. Gabe - Late teens early twenties. Diana & Dan's son. Dashing, athletic, and bright. He is a playful man and everything a mother could imagine. Dan - Forties. Diana's husband. He is handsome and genuine. Though a constant in Diana's tumultuous life, he has grown tired and weary of her antics. Natalie - Teens. Diana & Dan's troubled daughter. An accomplished pianist and hardworking student, her struggles are exacerbated by her mother's behavior. She greatly admires Henry. Henry - Teens. Natalie's classmate. The all-around musician, philosopher, and slacker. He has an intoxicating capacity for sympathy and romance. Dr. Madden - Tirties or forties. Diana's handsome psychiatrist.
